Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Dhahabi (673–748 AH / 1274–1348) is the historian of the hadith folk. Siyar a'lam al-nubala, Tadhkirat al-huffaz, and Mizan al-i'tidal remain the first books opened for rijal.

Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Dhahabi (673–748 AH / 1274–1348) is the historian of the hadith folk. Siyar a'lam al-nubala, Tadhkirat al-huffaz, and Mizan al-i'tidal remain the first books opened for rijal.

He was Shafi'i in fiqh and Athari in creed, and he praised Ibn Taymiyyah while remaining a hadith critic in his own right.
