Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1115–1206 AH / 1703–1792) taught Tawhid al-uluhiyyah in Najd from the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the Hanbali Athari books. Kitab al-Tawhid, al-Usul al-Thalatha, and Kashf al-Shubuhat are still the first matns in Salafi da'wah.

He studied in the Hijaz and Basra, then taught in Uyaynah and Dir'iyyah. His call was to single out Allah in worship and to leave vows, sacrifice, and seeking at graves — not to found a new madhhab.

Later Saudi teaching and the lessons of Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen treat his small books as the door to Athari creed for the common student.
