Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath al-Sijistani (202–275 AH / 817–889) compiled the Sunan that later scholars count among the six books. He selected for the fiqh of the chapters and sat with Ahmad ibn Hanbal.

His Sunan is a handbook of rulings with the traces of the salaf. Athari fiqh lessons still open it after the two Sahihs for worship and mu'amalat.
Legacy
A bridge between Ahmad’s circle and the later Sunan tradition used in Salafi fiqh classes.
